This life journey is a must-read; it can inspire your life

From the age of ten, my childhood was deeply affected by painful memories of my father’s brothers constantly fighting over their ancestral property. These conflicts left many unanswered questions in my mind about how to rise, how to speak up, and how to stand up for myself. Gradually, I developed a strong desire to distance myself from my father’s property and to build my own identity and future.

Eventually, I made the difficult decision to leave my family and my birthplace, choosing an uncertain path in order to create a new life. That decision marked the beginning of an extraordinary journey driven by determination of both to transform myself and to ease the family conflicts that had shaped so much of my childhood.

The Beginning of an Uncharted Path

Born beneath the shadow of Mount Everest in September 1956, my life began at a deck of towering mountains and quiet struggles. In this land, resilience is inherited, courage is routine, and dreams require extraordinary determination. Every person’s life journey begins at a different point, and mine has been both incredible and inspiring. The beginning of my struggle was unusual, yet fascinating.

At the age of sixteen, I ran away from my home in a remote village of Dolakh District, in Karnali Province, Nepal, in search of work. I walked barefoot, wearing only half-pants and a polyester half-shirt. As I walked toward India, my mind was filled with dreams and imagined conversations, much like the joy of tasting Manoka laddu with ghee in one’s imagination.

When I finally crossed the border into India, I was overwhelmed with emotion and broke down in tears. Life is one, but the journey through it unfolds in remarkable and unexpected ways.

A Turning Point in Life

In India, I washed dishes at roadside hotels in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. After some time, I returned to Nepal through the Sunauli border with a former Subedar of the Indian Army. I worked as a servant in his house in Pradip Nagar, Rupandehi District, for about a year.

One day, while running along the road, someone suggested that I should participate in a zonal running competition. During that event, an officer from the Nepal Army encouraged me to join their athletics team. That moment changed my life. I decided to become an athlete in the Nepal Army.

I clearly remember the day I joined the Nepal Army: Friday, January 14, 1977. From that moment onward, the idea of joining the Indian Army or the British Army disappeared from my mind forever.

However, another dream slowly began to grow inside me the dream of becoming an entrepreneur.

From Soldier to Entrepreneur

While serving in the Nepal Army, I nurtured the vision of becoming an entrepreneur for fourteen years. During my service, I also represented Nepal as a national athlete for about ten years.

According to the rules, one must serve a minimum of ten years before leaving the Nepal Army. I respected this regulation and waited patiently. Finally, after serving 13 years and 7 months, the army officially accepted my resignation on Friday, August 17, 1990. That day opened the door for me to begin my entrepreneurial journey.

The Path of Creation through Struggle

Soon after leaving the Army, on Tuesday, November 20, 1990, I began producing hand-spun woolen yarn. Five years later, on Monday, November 20, 1995, I started producing hand-woven woolen carpets. Later, on Monday, November 27, 2006, we launched machine-spun woolen yarn production. Finally, on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, we began producing tweed fabric.

Today, two companies represent the foundation of my life’s destination:

  • GORAKHNATH Handlooms Private Limited, producing tweed fabrics, natural carpets, and nature-inspired products.
  • GORAKHNATH Carding and Woolen Mill, specializing in a wide range of woolen yarns making.

Life is struggle, and struggle is life. Creation is born from struggle, and through struggle we continue to create. As I turned 67 in 2025, I looked back on an incredible journey filled with unexpected turns and meaningful experiences. My struggle continues and with it, my creation continues as well.

From “I” to “We”

When I started my journey, it was only “I” and “mine.” Today, it has become “we” and “ours.” Together with my family and our dedicated management team, we are moving forward with pride and determination.

We believe that one day our country will proudly recognize our products as part of Nepal’s national identity. My family and I feel honored to be part of Nepal’s historic product: GORKHA GNW Tweed.

With enthusiasm, pride, and confidence, we continue moving forward.

An uncertain journey leads to a certain destination. However, life is a journey, and the journey is life.

Nature is life, and life is nature
