The dream of creating branded tweed clothing was deeply rooted in memories of hand-woven fabrics crafted in the Himalayan landscapes where the journey began. I was born in DAILEKH, in Nepal’s Mid-Western region, so the enduring spirit of KARNALI lives within me. Inspired by the BAKHU a traditional veil worn for centuries in the Himalayan region during snowfall. Our designs embody warmth, resilience, and timeless beauty. The rich heritage forms the soul of our creations.

Every product begins with a story, and the earliest stages of creation are both fascinating and essential. Naming a product is not simply an act of branding; it is the moment an identity is born. In the same way, the journey of GORKHA GNW Tweed, Nepal’s first branded fabric, stands as a milestone in our textile history. The dedication and craftsmanship behind its development have shaped not only the fabric itself but also the foundation of our brand.

Once the name was registered, our focus shifted toward innovation developing new collections that honor tradition while embracing modern design. That marked the true beginning of our journey.

Looking ahead, we are driven by a clear vision: within the next five years, we aim to use at least 80% locally sourced raw materials across all our products. By doing so, we continue to support local communities, preserve heritage craftsmanship, and proudly represent Nepal on a global stage.

THETUWA- Collection:

Rooted in centuries of tradition, THETUWA-fabric originates from KARNALI Province in Nepal’s Midwestern region, an area celebrated for its deep cultural heritage and exceptional hand-weaving practices. Traditionally woven on hand-looms, THETUWA is produced in two distinctive structures: Single Pedal (plain weave) and Four Pedal (twill weave)-both techniques passed down through generations and continuously practiced for centuries.

Historically, THETUWA– fabric was crafted from 100% locally grown cotton, hand-spun on a domestic Charkha using time-honored methods common to rural Nepal. Valued for its comfort and versatility, it has long been worn across both summer and winter seasons, making it a truly inspirational and functional textile.

Honoring its legacy, our company has re-imagined THETUWA for a contemporary audience by introducing an upgraded collection that incorporates rare and luxurious materials such as DHOLPO wool, DHOLPO pashmina, and silk. These premium fibers, while replacing traditional cotton, retain the original weave structure, technology, and craftsmanship, elevating its refinement while preserving the spirit of the Karnali region.

The result is a fabric that seamlessly bridges heritage and modern luxury authentic, timeless, and crafted with respect for tradition.

Timeless Fabric of Nepal:

THETUWA cloth is a traditional Nepali fabric deeply rooted in the country’s culture, craftsmanship, and everyday life, valued for its comfort, versatility, and enduring cultural significance. However, THETUWA continues to inspire both traditional and modern fashion in Nepal.

Men’s Traditional Wear:

For men, THETUWA is most famously used in DAURA-SURWAL, the national dress of Nepal. The DAURA is a knee-length upper garment with overlapping panels tied on both sides, while the SURWAL is a traditional trouser, loose at the waist and tapered at the ankles.

DAURA-SURWAL made from THETUWA is widely worn for social, cultural, and formal occasions. Along with KAMIJ-SURWAL, it carries deep historical importance and was officially recognized as Nepal’s national dress during the RANA dynasty.

Women’s Traditional Wear:

For women, a special cloth known as the PATUKA approximately 2.5 meters long is traditionally wrapped around the waist. While originally white-based, PATUKA is now available in a variety of colors and soft floral patterns. Today, THETUWA-fabric is being creatively adapted into comfortable and elegant designs that blend tradition with contemporary style, opening new possibilities for modern Nepali fashion.

Seasonal Comfort & Versatility:

THETUWA-fabric is suitable for all seasons. Its natural cotton fibers provide breathability in warm weather, while its ability to layer makes it ideal for colder climates. This balance makes THETUWA-fabric a practical and comfortable choice for everyday wear throughout the year.

Health-Conscious & Eco-Friendly:

THETUWA, Made from pure organic cotton and Himalayan hygienic softer wool and Nepali KHOPA-Silk yarns, THETUWA-fabric is a natural, skin-friendly, and sustainable fabric. It is especially beneficial for children and the elderly, offering softness, comfort, and reduced irritation compared to synthetic materials.

Preserving Heritage, Shaping the Future:

However, THETUWA-fabric is not yet widely available, it represents a unique and localized textile tradition of Nepal. By re-imagining THETUWA-fabric for modern lifestyles, we aim to preserve cultural heritage while creating fashion that is comfortable, meaningful, and timeless.

PATASHEE- Collection:

The PATASHEE Collection is inspired by the ancient traditional attire of the NEWAR community of the Kathmandu Valley, with deep roots in the historic city of BHAKTAPUR, Nepal. Traditionally worn by NEWAR women during cultural festivals and ceremonies, PATASHEE has long stood as a powerful symbol of identity, craftsmanship, and heritage.

Historically, PATASHEE fabrics were created using time-honored weaving and natural dyeing techniques passed down through generations. While the essence of this tradition remains intact, the process has naturally evolved over time. At the intersection of heritage and innovation, we have thoughtfully re-imagined PATASHEE introducing subtle refinements in color palettes and design motifs while preserving its authentic character.

Guided by our mission to revive heritage-based textiles with a modern, mythological twist, the PATASHEE Collection is presented in two distinct lines: winter and summer. Each piece is crafted using eco-friendly, natural materials such as wool, silk, cotton, and bamboo, chosen for their sustainability, comfort, and harmony with nature.

This collection reflects our unwavering commitment to quality, innovation, and cultural preservation. By combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design sensibilities and environmentally responsible materials, the PATASHEE Collection offers timeless style, everyday comfort, and conscious living.

We are dedicated to sharing the rich legacy of Nepali textiles with the world. Driven by responsibility and respect for history, we create handmade fabrics that honor the past while making a meaningful global impact.

For those who value sustainability, culture, and mindful living, the PATASHEE Collection is more than clothing it is a celebration of life, nature, and heritage.

Nature is life, and life is nature.
